A Step Towards Equality: Novartis Implements Gender-Equal Leave Benefits
One of the most life changing moments for people is becoming a parent and welcoming new life into their lives. Every parent, should be able to embrace this moment fully and fulfill their responsibilities without any obstacles regardless of their gender. Unfortunately, many workplaces still exhibit a gender disparity when it comes to paid parental leave policies. Due to persistent gender stereotypes, it is predominantly women who gets to take time off for parental leave, inadvertently depriving fathers of the opportunity to spend valuable time with their newborn children. Moreover, this discrepancy also impacts mothers, as they may face professional setbacks due to societal expectations of them being the primary caregivers.

In line with this commitment, in January 2021 Novartis Bangladesh introduced equal parental leave policy that extends paid leave for six months to all parents, regardless of gender.
By offering the same parental leave to all parents, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, Novartis promotes greater equity for birthing and non-birthing parents and give everyone the flexibility and opportunity to make the right choices for their families.
